Getting Ready For The Big Mozart 250th
Oh, to have a plane ticket to Salzburg, Austria. Friday is the 250th anniversary of the birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The city is going crazy right now in a frenzied outpouring of love for it's native son. At the moment that Mozart is believed to have been born, at least 100 churches will sound forth with steeple bells for 7 minutes. It will be carried around the world by countless radio stations both on Frequency Modulation and via the modern miracle of internet streaming. I will be listening on WRR in Dallas, TX. I will be alone, as I am sure I will weep like a young child.
I am listening to a CD that just showed up the mail today of my favorite symphony, No. 41, the Jupiter Symphony. It's performed the The Academy of St Martin In The Field, led by Neville Marriner. The first movement was a little quicker than you usually hear, but it's spirit is infectious and I am won over to this rendition. The 2nd movement is truly andante cantabile, a tempo this ensemble does so well. The Menuetto 3rd movement is just right, and the finale movement (molto allegro) has my heart racing. I would have to believe Wolfgang himself would be pleased with this performance. I must hear it again right now!
Happy Mozart 250th!!!
Alles Gute zum Geburtstag Wolfgang!
